Coke contains phosphoric acid and it may clean off ordinary crud, but soap and water will work faster.
Pour the coke in a bowl and the put your gold in it for ten minutes. Rinse and polish with a soft cloth.
Why would you not just use soap and water. Dish detergents break down grease and grime. Why put Coke on your jewelry?
Hi Abby, I found this info about your question. Personally, I just use a dab of toothpaste and an old toothbrush to scrub any crud away.......

Hi Abby, you can just pour some coke into a glass and leave your gold inside for a few minutes. Rinse under running water and use a toothbrush to polish up and get into any nooks or crannies.
