This rustic wood slab was rescued from the trash. That’s when I knew I had to transform it into this delightful gold nugget centerpiece.

Rustic wood slab centerpieces are all the rage in the crafting world but, I tend to see the same style over and over. That’s when I knew it was time to create something different!

Rustic Wood Slabs are wonderful to work with, and you can create so many beautiful crafting projects with them.

If you are not sure what they look like, see the below image.

This project is so much fun to create and takes about an hour or so to complete.

What You Will Need:

Rustic Wood Slab

Jute or Rope

Sealer Waterproof Protector – I used Gator Hide

Brushes – Sponge brushes and Stippling Brush

Gold Paint

Glue Gun

Medium to Coarse Sanding Sponge

I stumbled across this rustic wood slab when my DIL was going to throw it in the trash. I saw it had potential and scooped it up and began envisioning my transformation into this gold nugget centerpiece.

It was easy to do and since I love elements of gold decor and knew that it would match perfectly with my Beautiful Applique Clay Flower Pots, I knew I made the right decision in rescuing it!

First, I sanded it down with a medium sanding sponge (sanding sponges are my favorite sanding tool, and I used them for so many crafting projects). This will help remove all excess debris and loose pieces of wood on the rustic wood slab.

Then, you will want to make sure you wipe it down with a damp cloth to remove the wood particles and dust.

Next up, I protected and sealed the wood with a sealer protectant. I used Gator Hide for so many of my crafting projects. It’s one of the best protectant sealers I’ve ever used. It dries clear and creates a waterproof barrier on anything you paint it on.

You will want to be sure to give the edges a good coat too because the wood seems to chip off the most from that area.

Then, I decided to add some jute rope around the edges only because I love jute and, I think it added a nice decor element. I’ve created so many crafting projects using jute so be sure to check them out too!

Then, lastly, in comes the gold! I love it transformed this rustic wood slab into a huge gold nugget! I used my favorite Gold Pebeo Gedeo Gilding Wax all around the edges and one coat to the top as well.

Then, lastly, in comes the gold! I love it transformed this rustic wood slab into a huge gold nugget! I used my favorite Gold Pebeo Gedeo Gilding Wax all around the edges and one coat to the top as well.

And that was it! This project took about an hour or so to create and, I am so in love with the results. As I said, I love gold decor elements and these beautiful pops of gold around my home always bring me much joy!

The gold elements in the flower pots play off perfectly the gold in the rustic wood slab. I love how it looks on my front porch and adds that extra pizzazz I was looking for!

I knew I wanted to use flowers with lots of pink in them as pink and gold are always the perfect combination!
