A Lesson in Halloween Flying
About two years ago I wanted a sign for Halloween that caught my eye in a catalog. It was too expensive so I decided to make my own. I thought I would share . . .
So basically, the sign reads "Flying Lessons by appt. only". I started with a scrap of wood and sanded and cleaned it. I painted (spray can) it black. When it was completely dry I taped off the edges and spray painted orange. Removing the tape created a "frame". Using black paint that I had on hand I tried to do my best lettering. I sprayed sealer when done. The sign seems to be holding up pretty well after being in sun and rain for two seasons of Halloween.
I'm seeing a few blisters up close.
Next I needed a broom to hang from the sign. This broom was sitting outdoors useless so I grabbed it. I had to cut it down to fit the proportions of the sign and then I re-tied with jute.
I added eye hooks and chain and some "s" hooks.

Too cute! It made me laugh out loud. LOL I'm thinking this might be a good way to block off our front door on Halloween. Sadly my hubby's Dad died on Halloween and he just doesn't want to do the candy hand out anymore. With the porch blocked in a cute way, kids would get the message - by appt. only. Maybe I could even do something like say "Candy gone - by appt. only" or "The Witch flew away and took all the candy/treats" Anyone have another idea? I feel sad, but he sits by that door and I don't want to push it at all.- See 1 previous

I love this! I have a piece of wood I can paint a sign like you did. I have an old ratty broom, but I'm going to paint the broom handle black (it's bright yellow). Thank you for such a great idea!-
