When to put up Halloween decor?

I love my fall décor and have quite a bit. I have lots of Halloween things too. Do most of you incorporate Halloween into your fall or pretty much replace it. Because then I feel that I have to go back in November and put fall back.

I would rather incorporate Halloween in with the fall decorations, after all this holiday is part of the fall celebration.

  • Even though halloween is a big deal where I live, I do fall decor and add in a few halloween specific items, then just remove once halloween has passed. Since I do not have small kids any more, it is mostly fall.

I have been reading all your comments Naomie and had to chuckle about the seasons one.. Correct there are only four seasons. I am like you I decorate for fall then add some Halloween decor. If I had that many kids I think I would move. Lol I get around 100 the most of all the streets in my neighbourhood. I do up special bags for the kids on my street that my son plays with. I live in Canada so our Thanksgiving just past and Black Friday has just started to be a big thing here. When you celebrate your Thanksgiving. I agree your holiday is overshadowed by black Friday. On Thanksgiving here you won't find any malls open. Happy Fall!

I turn my Jack O Lanterns backwards and this way you just see the pumpkins, I keep my fall leaves, put away the witches and ghosts and add a few pilgrims.

I go fall first then embellish with Halloween. After Halloween I remove some of the decor. I have a lot of pumpkins that are painted on one side and I turn the "boo", "hocus pocus", etc toward the wall.

Yes I do incorporate fall first then add Halloween

  • Hi Linda - Most years, we do fall in September, begin Halloween around the first of October, take Halloween down soon after it's over, and then go right into Christmas (or even leave a gap of no decor for a week or so). Yes, it's early, but I love Christmas! Regardless of what everyone thinks, do what you love and enjoy the seasons that you love the most! Your home and decor is all about YOU! Hugs, Holly

  • You could always decorate for fall towards the end of September. Add a few pieces to make it look more Halloween, then take it out on November the 1st and keep fall until Thanksgiving. We always had the tradition the day after Thanksgiving to decorate as a family for Christmas.

I start with my fall decorations in September, I live in Canada so our Thanksgiving is early October so right after that I bring out my Halloween decor and add it to my fall. I live two doors from an elementary school and the kids walking past everyday love it.

I turn my pumpkins with the jackolantern face facing backward. The week before Halloween they are faced forward. After Halloween jack goes to the back again. I have several and this year I noticed my grandchildren do it for me!

  • I add Halloween items to my Fall decor at the end of September. When Halloween is over, it gets put away and Fall lasts until Thanksgiving.

  • I just add a few items to my fall decor around the 15th of October. Nothing too spooky or crazy, and then I remove them on Nov 1 and add a few Thanksgiving items in their place.
