A Stylish, Ruffled Dog Crate Cover

I'm not much of a seamstress, but I've always wanted to learn how to make ruffles for some upcoming projects this year. I thought, what better way to learn than to create a fun, inexpensive (and stylish) dog's crate cover for our dog, Buddy whose crate sits in our sunroom. I rescued Buddy when he was 3 (he had lots of behavioral issues). He's 9 now, and loves to lay in his crate during the day or under my feet when I'm working. This gives him just the security blanket he needs.
Since I'm a beginner I'm making a few rookie mistakes. But in my blog post, I share some tricks I used to make the ruffling easier. I'm also planning to cover my stitches with some pretty trim from the fabric store.
This is the room where Buddy's crate is (out of the picture towards the left).
His crate sits right next to our deck. I thought the cover would give him some privacy and sun protection, too.
