DIY Galaxy Christmas Tree

2 Days
Last year I decided I wanted to go with an outer space/galaxy theme for our Christmas tree, with a subtle nod to Doctor Who. I got really ambitious and decided to spray paint the entire tree to look like a swirling galaxy. That part was a bit of an adventure, to say the least.
The first thing I did was to spray paint an artificial tree with blue, purple, pink, and white. The colors sound very Barbie, but they come together for the perfect galaxy effect! While spray-painting the tree, I had a frightening moment where I stepped back after getting a little trigger happy with the pink paint and realized it looked a little like a gender reveal party prop, but I got it all headed back in the right direction eventually… ;)
I hand-painted a bunch of planet ornaments and added them in little clusters. You can get the DIY tutorial for these ornaments here:
I placed the hand-painted ornaments alongside some bright silver swirly and explode-y ornaments that reminded me of formations you might see on a Hubble telescope photograph.
The finishing touch was some darling little star-shaped Christmas lights. Again, I added these in little clusters to give the tree the look of having a few different galaxies clustered here and there. I topped it all off with a giant paper honeycomb "sun" and tucked a TARDIS in amongst the planets. :)

Very cool! Great fan of Dr. Who along with my son. He has various Dr. costumes for the conventions. If I showed him this, he'd want one =:)
