Weathered Scrap Wood Crate Christmas Tree Stand

Using up my scrap pile, I created this fantastic whimsical way of displaying my christmas tree. The actual process was really straight forward.. build a basic box and then accent it with wooden shims to create the "x" panel not he sides.
Using a bucket full of concrete and PVC pipe I also made sure the tree was really stable even when I couldn't use it's original stand.
It started with a pile of wood scraps.. They were very random.. all shapes and thicknesses.. but somehow I made them work.
I used large 2-bys as the outer frame of the crate.

Slowly the box came together.
I used wood shims to create the "X" on the sides. They were easy to cut with a box cutter.

You won't believe how cut they came out.. click the link at the bottom to see the final version!

Now I want to make one for every tree in my house!

You could have painted the box red to look like a drum, that would have been cute!
