Faux Pastel Eggs

The Easter Bunny has come and gome but that does not mean we can't still have fun with Easter eggs, does it?

This farmhouse themed decor has become a staple during spring but can easily be adapted for holidays, various seasons and great for aesthetically pleasing pretend play for kids.

If you have leftover plastic eggs, let's put them to good use! Heading into summer you can paint them with bright and bold or patriotic red, white & blue.

However you want to display them is up to you, the fun part is creating them.

Materials:

-Plastic Eggs

-Acrylic Paints

-Paintbrush/ foam brush

-Natural Jute Cord

-Foam block

-Toothpicks

I chose pastels as a tester, yellow, pink, white, blue and brown for speckles.

Take the egg and make sure the entire egg is put together. Then place a toothpick into one of the hole on the plastic egg and place the toothpick into the foam to keep in place.

Using the foam brush, dab the brush into the paint getting a decent glob on there. Dab the paint onto the egg, covering the entire surface. Don't allow the foam to get too dry or it will take the paint off plastic egg.

*Tabbing helps cover the egg with a nice coat of paint while also creating texture on the egg. This texture mimics the real texture of an egg and helps subsequent layers to stick better 👌

This is after 1 coat. As you can tell there are some spots that need another layer. Wait to until these are totally dry before adding another.

*ignore the fact that these eggs are not put together. Definitely keep the eggs whole while painting to avoid chipping when putting them together again.

I added some brown flecks onto the eggs by flicking the brissels of a small paintbrush towards the egg after dipping in brown paint. Tying natural jute cord to the eggs after they dried created that finished look and placed them in an old egg carton.

Or add them to a basket!

Or a dish! However you choose, make it yours.

Happy crafting friend!

The last photo is worthy to be in a Martha Stewart Living magazine.

One could never guess how the eggs started out.
