I hit the jackpot once again when I went to one of my favorite thrift stores this week. I bought this $3.00 lamp which was 50% of its original $6.00 price. But, I did not purchase it to use it as a lamp. I bought it because I liked the lamp base. I wanted to use it as a vase. This is how the lamp looked before I took it apart. I had removed the harp and finial though.

Sadly, when I began taking it apart, I found that the top only had a half inch hole in the top and the bottom had a 4 inch hole in it. Well, so much for using it as a vase. 🤯 Not one to give up, I decided that since I had been given “lemons” to make “lemonade” instead. I then decided to glue the metal cap onto the top of the base and then glue the finial on the top of the metal cap. I then glued the base to the bottom of the base after cutting off the cord. It went from my aspiration of a vase to an upscale glitzy “faux” urn. I still like this piece although it didn’t end up how I expected. FYI, I kept all the wiring parts in case I needed to re-wire a lamp or use it to make another lamp. I will keep looking for another lamp with an interesting base. Here is the final piece.

Let me know what you think. Would love for you Hometalkers to check out my other projects and see what I have done with more unusual items.

Hello Thea. Glad you liked my faux urn. I thought of you just a little while ago. I saw my 5 wooden hangers that I have never made into a star like yours. Hope to get it done this week.
