Coastal Bedroom Decor

I couldn’t do a full makeover for my bedroom this time…I honestly didn’t have the energy to pull out all the stops like I wanted to. But I did give it a little refresh. Here’s the before:
And here’s the after:
A little color goes a long way! I only added a few items and trimmed out the windows. I still want to do a ceiling treatment, wall treatments, new paint colors, maybe some wallpaper, new lighting, and hang curtains.
One of my favorite styles, especially for the summer, is the coastal style. You know, ‘beachy.’ I like to start with a pretty neutral base in the room, like white linens, wood tones, and other neutrals like gray and turquoise. Turquoise? As a neutral? I totally use shades of turquoise in my house as neutrals. It’s throughout my entire house, always as a neutral and not as an accent color. It goes with nearly any other accent color, like coral or pink or green or navy blue. It works with so many colors that it qualifies as a neutral.
A recent addition to my bedroom was this bookcase. We have had our books in boxes since we moved and I was itching to unpack some of them. Also because many of our movies were in the boxes and I was sick of going through every one to find the one I wanted to watch. Now they are safe in the little media boxes on the bookcase.
I purchased the bookcase at Walmart.com, part of the Better Homes and Gardens at Walmart line, it’s the Crossmill Bookcase. I was really impressed with this bookcase because even though the finish is a veneer, it’s a very convincing one–it looks like weathered wood and it’s beautiful! I saw they just got it with doors too and that one’s really pretty also!
