Are you a plant person? I only recently started loving plants in my home! But pots are starting to get expensive, so when I plant outgrew it's pot, I knew it was time to DIY something. I was going to go out and buy a pretty new one, but I thought that it would try to test my frugalness instead!

This galvanized steel bucket is one that I’ve had lying around the house for a while. I never really had a purpose for it, so I thought it might work perfectly as a planter.

I created this planter using my Spellbinders Platinum Machine and these super cute geometric die cut patterns. For more info on the pieces I used, check out the full DIY planter post!

I already had these geometric patterns for my Platinum 6 Machine, and figured that they would be the perfect way to add character to my shiny new bucket.

You can totally use your end-of-the-roll vinyl scraps for this project! Cut your pieces so that they fit onto the cutting boards, and roll them through the Platinum 6 Machine.

The vinyl was a little bit thick to cut, so I went back and forth a few times until the cuts went through. I cut three black hexagons out, and one gold one.

I planned to use the outlines of the black hexagons, and the interiors of the gold hexagons. They gold acted as an accent and looked great between the black lines.

I laid everything out, stacking pieces on top of one another, until I was happy with the look. When I was happy with the design, I peeled off the back, protective layer of vinyl and stuck them to the new planter.

When I was done, I liked it so much that I almost didn’t use it as a planter at all, lol. I was dreaming up tons of different uses for it. LOVE the black and gold combo, and LOVE the geometric design!
