Add a little fun game time to your porch or patio with this DIY Tic Tac Toe set made from a wood slice (or stump) and perler bead pieces!

Gather Supplies

To create your own outdoor Tic Tac Toe board, begin by getting the necessary supplies:

  • 2-3 cups  Perler Beads (any color!)
  • perler bead board
  • Ironing paper or wax paper
  • Iron
  • Wood slice or stump
  • Black acrylic paint (or any dark color)
  • Paint brush

Assemble Pieces

Use the beads and begin to create x’s and o’s out of beads. If your board is small, you may have to do this one at a time, but with a larger board, you can make multiple pieces at a time. Any assortment of colors will do; in fact, the more colorful your x's and o's, the better!

Iron Beads

Once the perler beads are in place, cover with the ironing or wax paper, and iron according to the perler bead instructions, fusing the beads together. (We used wax paper because we were in a pinch, and there was a tiny bit of sticking when we allowed them to cool too much, so be aware.)

Allow the beads to cool before removing them from the board. (All of our boards were in the shape of animals, so we did one piece at a time.) Larger bead boards can fit multiple pieces in one ironing session. You'll need 5 x's and 5 o's.

Paint the Board

Once pieces have been made, place a small amount of black acrylic paint on a paper plate and grab a paint brush. On a wood slice or outdoor stump, paint your tic-tac-toe board. Use several coats if necessary.

Enjoy your outdoor tic-tac-toe set with friends and family and make those hangout times on the patio even more entertaining!
