I’ve recently been working with resin and getting a real feel for the material and was finally confident to start making my own products to eventually open my own business up and I came up with these beautiful bookmarks inspired by geode patterns in the rocks. I hope everyone likes my design and has a go them selves. Let me know what you think. The blue bookmark is also available to buy in my Etsy store at https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/SophsResinGifts?ref=profile_header

Before

I brought this silicon mould from eBay at just a couple of dollars. This is just a plain bookmark mould that’s easy to use and fill. Ideal if your just starting out with resin and want to try simple shapes.

Next, I measured 10ml each of resin and hardener so 1:1 as this is what my brand requires but some brands may be different and require 2:1 resin and hardener for example. Make sure to then mix for 3 minutes total so the mixture is fully mixed

After that I split my mixture into 4 parts and added the colours I wanted. I use micro powders and glitters which you can get from your nearest dollar store. I’m going to use gold glitter to create the crystal effect.

Now it’s time to start creating the geode pattern…

Using a popsicle stick to pour the resin with I added the gold glitter resin first. The idea I had was to start from the middle and work my way out to the edge with each colour and to just let the resin bleed into each other naturally creating a nice blend of colours.

You can see here I’m just adding a little bit of each colour and working my way out till I’ve filled the mould.

I let the resin dry for 24 hours before taking it out of the mould and adding a gold tassel at the end for a added touch.

Top coat

To finish off I measured 5ml of resin and hardener to give the bookmark a top coat to protect the colours. I just spread it all over towards the sides.

To get rid of sharp edges just get a small piece of sand paper and rub it along the edges. Any grit sandpaper will do it.

After

Here is the finished piece!

I let the bookmark dry for another 24 hours before it was ready to be used. I think this bookmark is a really easy beginners project to have ago at creating with resin.

These pieces are available in my Etsy store to buy for £4, free delivery in the uk.
