Grain Sack Stripe Inspired Tray

I got together with some of my blogging pals, and we all finished a wooden tray in our own unique style. This a sneak peek of my take on this unfinished wooden tray.
I started out by giving this tray a quick sanding with 150 grit sandpaper. I have an Orbital Sander, which makes this much easier and quicker. But you could do it by hand, too.
I stained the tray with a dark stain, being careful to wipe off any extra stain.

I've been slightly obsessed with grain sack stripes for awhile. And what better project than this one to incorporate them?!
I taped the stripes and painted them with a white chalk paint. I love the Edge-Lock Painter's Tape from ScotchBlue/3M. I didn't have hardly any seeping of the paint below the tape, and the little bit that I had was because I didn't get the tape on correctly!
I love how the finished tray looks on our new Farmhouse Industrial Shelves in the dining room!
