Ugly heater with frame surround. (Beautiful on inside though)
Decorative metal cover for old working natural gas wall room heater?
Hi, This is my first post.
This is from an apartment I own. The natural gas heater is from the 1950s & works great. It is a top vent. Would like to replace cover, but don’t know with what exactly. It has to be fire safe. I like this decorative 3’ x 3’ sheet metal. Not tall enough.
Have been searching google for a few days with no luck. Am at a loss. Have a pic of heater with cover, without cover & 3’ by 3’ sheet metal. Thanks for any suggestions!
Without the metal frame surround.
A possibility, but need to join & snip to fit.

What you've shown is exactly what i had in mind. Check with your local home improvement store. I'm sure they make it in larger sheets since I knew of a carpenter making a cover for an old radiator who used this metal and it was larger than the piece shown.
Hello Joan,
You can buy Fretted metal panels, maybe try eBay! Otherwise use MDF Radiator Panels. Best wishes
Take a look here for some decorative screens at Amazon:

That sheet will look great! I'd suggest making a frame with two sections in it and place one sheet in each section. You can then use the frame to attach the frame to the wall. (I used that same screen for this project, you could spray paint it like we did: https://www.frugalfamilytimes.com/2019/01/diy-media-cabinet-built-in.html)
What ever you do please be careful to not use anything combustible. This type of heater gets very hot. We had a fire in my house due to combustible material being too close.
Hi Joan, anything in a metal should do the trick, and there are heat resistant paints out there as well, so if you want to paint it, you can. Or this,, hope it helps you out

There may be some metal cold air return grates that are big enough to cover the front. You may need to attach spacers to the wall if the grate is bigger than front.
Hi! Home Depot has a lot of options!

Hi Joan. Hobby Lobby sells decorative metal sheets. People use them for all kinds of reasons. I think one would work well as a decorative cover. These sheets can be cut to fit. They can also be joined together with wire. Good luck Joan. I almost forgot, you can print a coupon 40% off of their web site.
I believe they sell that sheet metal in larger sizes...roll out sheets. I would call a plumbing supply house to see if they can point you in the right direction.
Hello Joan,
Buy a decorative Radiator Panel and use that. Good luck!
