Terracotta Windchime

I had several mini terracotta flower pots. I was trying to decide what to do with them when I thought - make a wind chime. This project is easy, inexpensive, and has so many personalization options. Great noise maker for your garden to scare those pests away.

For this project you'll need the following:

  • Mini terracotta pots - I'm using five
  • Twine/String/Fish line - I'm using kite string
  • A weight for the bottom - I'll be using a bell
Pull your string through the hole of the first terracotta pot. Make sure you have plenty to string up all 5 flower pots. It's easier to cut off extra string rather than finding out you had too little and you have to start over.
Tie a knot in the strong, you might have to make 2 knots depending on the terracotta pot's hole size.
Pull the knot to the top of the first flower pot. Pull the second terracotta pot onto the string.
Stack the second terracotta pot into the first one, and make a knot in this flower pot.
Continue this process until all your terracotta pots are stacked, and the knots are in between each flower pot to hold them in place.
Make a loop above the first terracotta pot. This will be how you hang your wind chime.
Cut off your extra string from the bottom, but leave it long enough to tie something on to be a weight. I am using a bell for my weight. Tie your weight onto the bottom of the string. This will help it swing in the wind/breeze and help your wind chime to make noise.
Hang your wind chime up outside. Terracotta pots hold up well in the weather. You could paint these before hand with an acrylic paint of your choice. Once you paint them, you'd want to spray them with acrylic sealer when they are dry to protect them and keep the paint in place.
These terracotta wind chimes are great to put in gardens to keep other pest out. They won't like the movement or the noise as it's unpredictable and will scare them away.

Nice concept but was just wandering how does the wind chime make noise when the wind blows...seems like the pots closely together are not hitting against anything or is the wind to move just the bell? Perhaps I'm missing something here...please advise me. Thanks in advance.
