When my daughter bought her home, the previous owners left a couple of these lanterns behind. Knowing that I love working on these projects, she asked me to bring them back to life. They were rusted and lifeless.
First, I gave them a good scrubbing which was followed by WD40 to make sure the handle would move and the door latch would open and close. Then I sprayed them twice with Rustoleum Hammered spray in a silver tone. Once dried is when the tedious work of antiquing them begun. I used antiquing wax which I brushed on, allowed to dry for a couple of minutes then wiped off.
Once that was done, inside and out, I sprayed them twice with Rustoleum Crystal Clear sealer to protect them from the elements.
Added a few candles and all done!
