Thrift Store Tray Turned "Menu" Chalkboard

I can find these old metal trays at the thrift store all day long...and so can you!
They are great for painting for decorative purposes...or turning into a chalkboard like I did with this on. I transferred a "menu" graphic, painted it in and now have a cute little menu to write on when guests come over!
I love chalkboards! You can turn just about anything into one.
I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White for this one.
Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Graphite for the "chalkboard". No, it's not chalkboard paint but does share some of the same properties as chalkboard paint so if left unsealed will "act" as a chalkboard. I've made many using it!
Transferred image from The Graphic's Fairy.
Painted it it with the white pen....
Lightly sanded and done. Stop by the blog for more details AND more projects!

I am new with trying to learn how to do chalk painting. Can you get it in a spray because it is so expensive when trying to purchase it. Someone said you could make it but dont have the instructions. Thanks for your help.

That's BEAUTIFUL I want to start with, great idea. What I would like to know is did you have to do any sanding or prep before using the chalk paint. Thanks-----Gigi

I used spray chalkboard paint on a

metal cookie sheet but if anything sharp touches it, the paint easily scrapes off. Any suggestions on how to prevent this? Also it seems hard to erase...what am i doing wrong?
