DIY Light Post With Another Purpose for the Garden

I planted a row of boxwood along the edge of the driveway and I realized rather quickly that when I drag our garden hose past these newly planted beauties to water the plants in other areas of the yard the hose would rub up against them.

So in trying to figure out how to keep the hose out of the plants I decided to come up with a light post that I could hang planters on and also frame a walkway that I had recently put in.

Here is a where this project started.

A couple new small flower beds that frame a walkway, and a row of boxwood, and an issue with the garden hose. :0)

After making up my mind on what I wanted we picked up some treated 4x4 posts to use and I also purchased 2 solar deck cap lights to use on the top of them.

We cut the posts down to the size I wanted, then dug a hole where I wanted them to go.

Using a level we backfilled the holes and tamped them in until

they were completely secure.

After placing my posts I got my planters ready to hang, using soil and some pretty petunia's.

Then I hung them on the post using a couple of cup hooks.

And added my solar lights to the top.

They are exactly what I wanted and so pretty.. day and night!

Actually I think they look better than I even had pictured.

Plus they serve a purpose besides just being pretty in the garden, and giving off extra light, they help keep my water hose out of the flower beds. icon
