Hey it's Jason from East Coast Upcyclers. We're all about finding old doors and giving them new life. Others may refer to it as hoarding, but we like to refer to it as hoarding with a purpose. So, the drill is that I find old doors or some type of old building material and then call my buddy who I refer to as "Neighbor Jim" and he comes over to the East Coast Upcyclers Garage and films me doing some type of upcycling. During the filming he usually makes fun of the way I talk and I laugh at his lack of ability to use a hammer. Sometimes he just stays quiet and lets me talk so that he can learn some Harry Homeowner upcycling tips. It's a good thing we have going.... So, here's what we have for you today.
"Je suis dans les sales." Two years of french class and that's all I remember, I think I just told you that "I am in the halls." But the minute I ran into one of these french doors at my favorite reclaimed building material store I was speaking french like nobody's business. Next thing you know I am all like, "je suis tres bon en up cycling....." So, here's a little french door 101. You see an old french door, BUY IT. You see another old french door, BUY IT. You get the picture.... These things are hard to find, so scoop them up before "avant qu'ils ne disparaissent." That is "before they are gone" for those of you without access to freefrenchtranslations.com
Now that you've seen how to make them, learn how to hang them using the existing hardware. We were lucky enough to have this East Coast Upcycler door on display in a 250+ year old mansion in Dupont Circle, Washington DC. Check out the video....
Ok, so it's time to share some "conseils secrets." Here's our favorite place to find old doors....
Check out http://eastcoastupcyclers.com/category/doors/ to see what else we are doing with old doors. And, follow along with us on our pickin' trips as we find awesome old stuff and give it new life. It's all about rescuing old things before they wind up in the dump. You can find us on Facebook, twitter, instagram, youtube and pinterest!!!!
So, for now, it's back to hoarding with a purpose....

Love the video-using the hinges is genius. There's a great place in Pittsburgh, PA called Construction Junction. They have really nice selection of old doors, and it's constantly changing and very reasonable. I know what I'll be looking for on my next trip down!
