This is for my farmhouse fans... here in western Canada farmhouse is still very trendy and will be for awhile as it is so classic.

Before

As soon as I saw this table I saw white farmhouse; those chunky carved legs and thick wood top, yes!

Remove the table top finish

My first step after a good cleaning was to try and strip the top finish off with a chemical stripper. This factory type finish did not react well to it or lift off as easily as most finishes. The finish had to be removed with my orbital sander and various sandpaper grits. Be sure to wipe your sanding dust often as you go. Change grits from 120 - 180 -220 till your wood is silky smooth.

Paint the base white

The base was painted in Valspar furniture paint from Lowe's Canada in the color du jour.

It would be easier to paint the base without the top on so it was removed. Using a sandpaper pad I scuff sanded the entire base to give the paint something to grip to. Then wipe well to remove sanding dust again.

Stain the top white

Dixie Belle Voodoo Gel Stain is the product of choice and the color is white magic. I applied it using a soft applicator pad.

Add some grey

The first coat was not quite enough coverage for the look I wanted so a second coat of Dixie Belle Voodoo Gel Stain was applied, this time I added the color up in smoke; a grey along with the white magic.

Completed farmhouse dining table

To seal the top well 4 coats of  Dixie Belle satin clear coat were applied using a dampened applicator sponge again going with the grain and allowing to dry well between coats.

Chairs make a complete dining set

And the table is complete, transformed into the perfect farmhouse style dining table.
