Outdoor Stool: Simple Wood Working Project!
How to build a simple outdoor stool for your deck or backyard! With the completion of my barn door table for my deck I’ve been needing to build something to sit on for the table ends. The sides easily sit three at a time on the workshop benches my grandparents’ left me but this summer we were hauling out my dining room chairs to use besides. With my deck build projects done (our bench, sun loungers and end tables) I had just enough green treated lumber to address my seating problem too.
I decided on stools because I also actually wanted them to double as foot rests for when I'm lounging on my bench. So, I thought this would be a good opportunity to kill two birds with one stone.
How simple is this outdoor stool though? There are nine boards all together, four of them cut at 18″ (the legs), three of them cut at 16″ (the seat) and two 2x2s cut at 12″ (for support). Notice I spaced the legs out a little, giving more wood for the two outside boards to sit on them then the center board. (I figured with the way people sit, the outside boards would be under more stress then the center seat board.)
Then I added the 2×2 in the crook between the seat and the legs on the inside – I cut it to be less then the full depth of the seat so it would hide a bit. I ran screws from both the legs into it and through the seat boards into the 2×2 as well.
Anyone could make this little outdoor stool and it is surprisingly comfortable and it also makes a great plant stand.
