i have these really nice barstools that the cats destroyed with their claws. Rather than spending a fortune to replace 2 perfectly good barstools except for the torn up seats I decided to re-cover them! I spent $7.98 to do both of them!
Damaged barstool seat.
First I simply used a Phillips screwdriver to take the seat off the barstool.
Damaged seat.
I purchased 1 yard of faux leather fabric from fabric.com to re-cover the seats with. This fabric is a heavy duty vinyl faux leather in a dark wine color. I didn’t even remove the old faux leather. I used half a yard of fabric for each seat. I didn’t do any fancy measuring. I simply made sure I had enough fabric to cover the seat all the way around. I pulled the fabric snugly around the seat and stapler it down. Now... I won’t lie... the thick heavy duty faux leather was harder to secure without wrinkles than regular fabric. It took a bit more patience and effort to staple it down. The trick was pulling tight and working out the wrinkles to the best of my ability. There is a good YouTube video that I found helpful. The first seat took twice as long as the second seat... but all in all it took about 2 houDr and my barstools look brand new again. For $7.98 I can easily fix again of the cats use my barstools as a scratching post again!

Preparing to cut the fabric to fit the seat. I didn’t even take off the old vinyl (faux leathe).
Cutting the proper amount of fabric.
Starting the stapling process. I started woth one stae on each side.
starting to work my way around the seat cover stapling down the fabric on the bottom side of the seat. With each staple I am pulling the fabric snug and working out any wrinkles.
stapling...
More stapling. I have to say I had to pull many staples and re-staple the fabric to smooth down wrinkes along the edges...especially toward the end when it was almost finished.
more stapling
Trimoff the excess fabric.
All done!!!!
I highly recommend watching the YouTube video link I have put on this post. It was very helpful!
