Upcycled Duncan Phyfe Buffet
by
Angela O
(IC: homeowner)
I found this traditional Duncan Phyfe style buffet on a local classified site and couldn't wait to get my hands on it. I usually take some time to just let the piece speak to me. This one wanted to be elegant with a touch of glamour. It started clean enough but with very little pizzazz.
After cleaning and prepping, I painted the cabinet in a creamy vanilla that I concocted from my own stash of paints. I then painted the door and drawer fronts and legs with a soft metallic champagne color for a delicate glimmer.
The surface was sanded and stained ebony for sharp, modern contrast. I cleaned the original hardware with a solution of lemon juice and baking soda. After cleaning, I buffed it to a lustrous shine.
I think the outcome is absolutely gorgeous. It reminds me of a tuxedo with gold cufflinks.
One of my very favorite pieces. You can check out some of my other pieces at Simplisabidesigns.com

San8273585 on Jul 14, 2016Fabulous! And I too am not a big fan of painted furniture. Wish I had had your talents and inspiration when my walnut stereo cabinet was "retired".
