DIY Ice Cream Labels

• Ice Cream Containers
• Vinyl (I used a mixture of both black and pink vinyl)
• Transfer Tape
• Cricut Standard Grip Mat
• Cricut Machine (I used my Explore Air 2 machine)

The first thing I did was to design my DIY Ice Cream Labels on design space. I simply came up with two different designs since I had four containers. I wanted them to be a little different and not all the same. So I just typed in “The Gentry’s Homemade Ice Cream” in the Bradley Hand font for one design. Then, I just searched for ice cream in the images section of design space and found one simple image that I thought would be cute for it.

I used some of my Cricut tools to remove the excess vinyl. Again, the more you do this, the easier it becomes. I think I am finally getting the hang of it now! It doesn’t take me near as long as it once did. And these labels were a breeze compared to the vinyl I had to cut out for my DIY Vintage Advertising Jar I did last week! This was much more simple!

Once I had my lettering all cut out, it was ready to apply. I applied these labels the same way I always do with my other Cricut projects. See my DIY Plant Labels post for more specific instructions if you missed that in the past. I must say getting a huge roll of transfer tape is a must if you plan on making a lot with vinyl too. I ordered a big roll of it when I first got my Cricut machine. And I still haven’t ran out of it yet. Even though, as you can see on my blog, a lot of my DIY projects here lately have been Cricut related!

Just cut out a piece of transfer tape around the same size as your label. Then, place it on top and go to town with the scraper tool! Again, if you don’t have a scraper tool, a credit card will work just fine here! You basically want to make sure it sticks to the transfer tape completely. But, don’t worry if you start to pull it up and some of the letters aren’t attached. Just place it back down again and apply more pressure.

The next step to these DIY Ice Cream Labels is to just apply them to the container! After you peeled the transfer tape from the vinyl backing, you can now stick it on to the container. I was a little worried that they wouldn’t stick well to this container because of the material. But it worked like a dream! My Cricut hasn’t let me down at all so far!

Once you have it placed where you want it, just apply firm pressure again to make sure it adheres well to the container. Then slowly, and at an angle, peel the transfer tape off of the container. And that’s it! You now have cute and customized ice cream labels! You could really go all out and even make custom flavor ones. Like if you always made a certain flavor, you could create that as a label instead. I’m too OCD for that though. I couldn’t store “Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough” in a “Strawberry” container if you know what I mean! Lol but seriously, that is what I love about my Cricut machine. The possibilities really are endless.

So I made these labels several weeks ago and they have held up just fine. The ice cream containers are dishwasher safe, but since I added the labels, I decided to do hand wash only. I am not sure how well they would hold up in the dishwasher. They also store ice cream just perfectly in the freezer. No freezer burn or anything! I would definitely recommend them, even if you didn’t want to make your own DIY Ice Cream Labels for them! In my opinion, you can never have too many containers to hold some tasty homemade ice cream. Am I right or am I right?!
