How can I add inexpensive storage to a kitchen?
A big microwave takes all the counter space while the other counter space has toaster, blender, can opener, etc. Not much cabinet space upper or under. Difficult to get to for someone with a bad back. Would like to use a back wall to add some type of storage space. Help!

Use a book case with adjustable shelves. Put all appliances in there, even microwave. Use rest if shelves for casserole dishes, misc serving pieces. I did this and it really helped.
Bakers rack, book case or see what you can find in a second hand or thrift store! I have very minimal counterspace in my kitchen too. Understand how you feel.

I had the same problem, but I cleared a cupboard and put it in there.
Unless you use the blender daily, I'd try placing it on a baker's rack or shelving sufficiently deep. Purchasing a manual, easy to use can opener that fits in a drawer or an under counter mount style takes up far less space on your kitchen counter.
Would you consider a smaller microwave that could be placed on a mid point/lower shelf of the rack or bookcase (close to an electrical outlet), rather than on your countertop)?
