i had this problem so I bought an island kit and put it together. I had room in my dining room for it in one corner. It has cabinets, and 2 large drawers as well as a fold out table top to extend it. I use it for putting food on it, doing my canning on it, and so forth because the top is metal! I love it for an extra work space as well as drawer space. I bought a kit, but if you are handy, they are not difficult to make from an old cabinet and put wheels on it!
If you have deep cabinets use lifts or risers farther back so you can better see what you have and stack cans and things.
Hang things on the walls
Im all about floating shelves and wall hooks- we had to do that in our tiny kitchen too!
Could you post a picture of your kitchen? Would be easier to have better ideas if we could see what you have available.
fabric or plastic bins and baskets work great
I helped my client move into a 1910 apartment with an 8' square kitchen. I searched Pinterest for ideas, and here's what I did. I made a wall grid from an airconditioner wire cage, I had already made one for another client from the same cage so I had 2 pieces left. Hung it from 2 plant hooks in the wall, and put S-hooks to hang pots and utensils. I got 3 little wooden shelves at the thrift store for a coffee area, a spice rack, and one over the oven for oils and stuff. I also scored 3 white wire towel bars, put one next to store for glass pot lids, one on underside of sink cupboard for dish towel, and one under the grid with S-hooks to hang coffee cups. I made a recycled soda bottle plastic bag holder for the other sink cupboard door. We hung a few cool duck and deer plates on the vent hood over the stove. I hung a shelf over the door for more storage.
