Vintage Spice Jars

Even though this was a small project, the transformation was a big one!! I just love how these spice jars look like I scooped them up from an antique booth!
I've been setting these empty jars aside for a few months knowing I would do something with them. Wal-Mart has a large selection of spices with these jars.
The labels pull off easily too.
I removed the labels, washed the jars, and removed the sticky residue left over with a magic eraser.
I then took the jars outside and gave them two coats of spray paint. I decided to use this appliance spray because it's so durable.
I like the glossy look it gives the jars.
I sprayed the lids gold and decided I didn't like that look. Fail
I decided to make them look like galvanized steel instead.
I painted them a matte dark grey using chalk paint.
Once dry I stippled the lids with silver paint.
Much better!
Now that I've figured out this technique I may have to try this out on some other things.
So that's it! I may fill them with spices again and find some cute labels.
Then again I may just display them in my kitchen.

Have a question about this project?
How did you label them
Hmmmmm, wondering if you can use green paint for a jadeite look??
Did you seal the lids with something? They look more blended than the picture with the two colors side by side.
