In my experience, the less the net lights are squashed in storage, the easier it is to install them the next season. If they are stored flat, rather than balled up, there is less of a likelihood that the wires will be become permanently bent or crimped. I would suggest using large sized flat shallow storage bins. These are available with wheels, or in the stacking style. Here are some examples.

I use cardboard from an old box and wind them around the card. I also store them in plastic crates to prevent damaged for weather and pests.

That would be to collapse them into the box they came in, or one like it!
It is almost impossible to refold net lights back down to the compact size they need to be to fit back into their original box.
