Mosaic Tile Patio Table

I am an artist/interior designer, and come up with ideas to custom make various decorative items that either myself or a client are interested in.
The frame of an existing iron patio table after the glass top shattered. I cut and secured a piece of cement board to the frame.
After setting the pattern for the whole tiles, I broke and set the pieces like a puzzle to fill in the rest of the table.
Then grout and sealed it.
Suggested materials:
  • Whole and broken ceramic tiles
  • Cement board, thin set, and grout

This is beautiful. I've been thinking about doing something similar. How thick is the cement board that you used? Did you attach it a plywood base or just on top of the iron frame of the table? If no plywood base, do you have to seal the underside of the cement board?

    Hi,

"I cut and secured a piece of cement board to the frame". So you covered all the table with cement board to use it as a base instead of the glass? How did you secure it? Any glue to attach it to the iron? Thanks!! Mari
