Sunflowers are the queens of the late summer garden! They stand tall and proud over their neighbors and can’t help but bring a smile to your face. Today I’m going to share an easy Repurposed Cake Mold Sunflower DIY with an old bakeware pan I picked up at the thrift store.

Assemble your materials:

  • an old cake molded cake pan. If it's not yellow already, you could spray paint it.
  • a styrofoam cone
  • brown felt
  • brown buttons
  • faux hydrangea leaves
  • hot glue gun
  • fabric glue

Directions:

  1. Cut the styro cone to fit the middle of the cake mold fairly tightly.
  2. Glue brown felt around it to cover all the styro. (you could use tacky fabric glue also.
  3. Hot glue brown buttons to the top of the styro covered in felt. Cover it completely, layering the edges.
  4. Glue a couple faux leaves to the edges, right sides facing front.
  5. Glue a piece of leather for a hanger, or drill a hole in edge.
  6. Get rid of any glue strings by melting with a hair dryer.

This upcycled sunflower will be adorable in your late summer, early fall decor!

Did you put two pans together ? I have the big bottom pan but mine didn't come with the pan you put the styrofoam cone in

My mother loves sunflowers; her mom passed away and she always had sunflower decor and I think it helps my mother cope with her loss.. I’m going to make one of these and I know she will just love it on her porch. Thank you for the idea! I also have ALOT of multicolor brown buttons with NO HOME. Lol.
