Kathi: maybe you could lay in some chicken wire under a bit of soil.
Try Cayenne pepper.
Cayenne pepper or chili power may deter them. Won't harm the plants.
you can protect flower bulbs/potted plants by covering the dirt above them with a coarse-gauge wire screen/chicken wire or just around the base of plants in pieces this allows plants to grow through yet prevents chipmunks and squirrels from damaging the bulbs or digging in the dirt.Cayenne pepper & spices,oils that burn any animal is cruel it doesn't affect them til they leave area then burns their nose,eyes,mouths,ears and genitals,even their nipples & babies when they nurse them.Please be kind
Easy! Rocks! Place river rocks or stones in your containers. Anything that is too heavy for them to push out of the way. My girlfriends use river rocks or Mexican Beach pebbles.
