You can put pieces of broken ceramics, stones, anything heavy around your plants that they can't dig up, this will help control weeds and prevent evaporation of water.

  • Sprinkle the surface with cayenne pepper of lay some chicken wire over the pots.

Hi Judith, if you have a thorn tree or roses cut the branches into smaller pieces that will fit and scatter them inside your pot. You can also add coffee grounds. Squirrels don't like the smell. JUst be careful, some plants that like alkaline soil won't appreciate the extra dose of coffee

angy and sweet smells can help deter squirrels, as they aren't fond of these. Scents of white pepper and garlic powder are also used to repel squirrels. Rodents are also repulsed by the scent of pepper. Spray growing crops with water and put on some pepper seasoning to keep squirrels from knocking them down.

I have that same problem. Squirrels are cute but they are a nuisance here. When I am growing seedlings or small transplants, I have to put plastic forks in the pots, tines up of course.
