Spread 20 Mule Team Borax on the carpet and walk all over it, then vacuum. Do this like every other day for 2 weeks. It will kill the flees and the eggs that they laid in the carpet. As for the pets Adam's flee spray will kill them on contact. There is also an carpet spray that Adam's makes just for spraying carpet. Very little order. I keep the flee spray for animals in my home all year long, for killing spiders. Sold in pet stores and on line. If you have no pets, then the borax is the cheapest way to go. Get it with laundry detergent at the grocery store.
These all are good advice ... it’s hard one can be a tough problem ! I live on a farm I use guinea hens on the property for tick and flea control but if you live in states where it’s an indoor problem ... as much as I hate pesticides I’d use a bug bomb ... you have to be gone from house and your pets too but it’s fast and very efficient read instructions well.
Also consider sprinkling Diamateous earth in your yards through the warm weather ... it works on fleas and ticks etc hard shelled insects . Can get at feed stores etc.
