Here is an idea I pinned on Pinterest and I am anxious to try it myself. Those bees are a pain!!! https://www.pinterest.com/pin/15340454953005253/

First of all find the nest, usually outside, and spray it either at dawn or dusk when their activity is lowest. You can use a flying insect killer or WD40. The WD40 coats their wings and prevents them from flying. Be ready to run for cover, they will be plenty mad.

I have made and used the setup from Homeroad this summer when we were invaded by house flies. The ingredients were room temperature cola (non-diet), added sugar, and yeast. The flies were drawn to it and could not get out. It is gross.

Here is a link for you, it tells you lots of information on them and what might be drawing them and what you can do other than trap and kill:

  • If they continue to be a problem inside, you need to find the nest. It may be in the wall and you may need a professional for this job.

Hi Carol I agree I would definitely try to find the nest and take it out ASAP. I would also put out hornet traps outside and maybe one inside as well. Here's a DIY hornet trap that's very easy to make. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTq81uVzDQ8

you need to find out where they are coming to your house and then get rid of the nest first I would call an exterminator who knows where to look, has the equipment and can get rid of them without getting stung

You need to find the nest. Look for any openings on the outside. Also find how they're getting in. Seal up any entry point with caulk inside and outside.

Mix any kind of dish soap with water. I mix mine strong with soap. Spray on and they will drop on contact.

Open the window and put a Hornet Wasp Trap outside. Cut a plastic bottle to make a funnel and then invert it into the rest of bottle and stick in place. Pour sweet liquid inside of bottle. Creatures should be attracted to the smell and fly in and not be able to get out and Drown!

  • I would find the nest and carefully spray it with a wasp nest killer spray. If you can't find the nest, you may need to hire someone.

I use a can of Wasp & Hornet killer, spray the hive just before dark when they have all come back to the hive for the night. You can also crumple up a brown paper bag, and hang it somewhere outside..... since they are territorial they will go somewhere else. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sF_P2RhabBE&t=125s

    • Treat at dusk or dawn when the insects are less likely to be active.
    • Wear gloves and long sleeves to avoid being stung.
    • Spray wasp and hornet killer to kill the entire nest. Be sure to read the label before use.
    • When spraying, make sure you stand away from the nest and not directly underneath.
    • Spray with the wind, not against it.
    • Never attempt to treat nests alone. Use the buddy system or ask someone else to treat it if you’re allergic to stings.

Tips to keep hornets out of your home

    • Make sure all door and window cracks are sealed
    • Inspect window screens to make sure there aren’t any holes
    • Keep garbage containers sealed and away from entrances
    • Rinse recycling materials before putting them in the bin

I have tried this tip and it works well,

Thank you all for your advice, I have tried several and they worked.

I have traps in the house and outside. The professionals suggested waiting until the cooler weather so there won't be as many in the house. Then they will spray and then caulk all the spots we have found them coming in. And that should be it.

The best thing I have found is the Spectracide Professional in the black & white can. I buy it at Lowe's. Cover the area because it will drip when you spray it (from the air).
