Crates are quick and easy. Paint them your favorite color and add a shelf to the middle by putting in two side supports then slip a piece of plywood in for shelf. Really inexpensive and quick. Also look at local thrift shops. Often have 50% off days. A quick coat of chalk paint (NO prep like sanding needed) and you have a beautiful piece of furniture.
A few suggestions: wooden chairs, especially quirky old ones, work well, and with salted backs it allows for lamps cords, etc. Also, if you’re averse to buying, a friend of mine took me up and down every alley in the city we lived in near the end and beginning of the month, when people typically move out, and we looked for discarded furniture in or near dumpsters, as it isn’t usually snatched up like curbside giveaways. Just a thought, good luck!
I picked up a couple at a thrift store for $7. Then cleaned up and painted. They look fabulous. Aldi try marketplace.

Oh! By the way, when newly married, I used crates, etc as end tables. You can paint them -- and have a fun space!

Use those wooden crates from the craft store they sell for $10
Peruse the local thrift stores to find end tables. You could also use sturdy cardboard boxes (even reinforce them with more cardboard on the inside) in a real pinch until you are able to purchase used. The boxes can be painted in any design or color you please and could actually be a fun solution. Think out of the box & use them! :) Depending on how large end tables you need another option would be to locate those large popcorn tins and use them, either painted to suit your decor or not. Sorry for your misfortune.
Yesterday, I saw two crates fixed together on the long side, painted white, rope/twine around the "handle" areas. Really cute. I think they are on Pinterest.
Hello Neenee, here is cute idea, finishing is your choice, hope you like it!

We went to visit a newly married couple and she had used cardboard boxes for end tables. She had painted them and they really looked near! She had taken a lower long box and covered it with a table cloth for her coffee table...had a plant and some other things on it. She didn't want to spend much money because she was going to be moving very shortly.
Yes - make them out of pallets! Here is one idea: https://www.hometalk.com/diy/outdoor/furniture/diy-pallet-end-table-9312561
DIY Pallet End Table
go to Goodwill or a Thrift store and you can find good buys on furniture that may need painting but you will save a lot of money
Also you can use storage cubes for tables- a lot of areas have online yard sales and you may find something really inexpensive there as well -

Look on facebook marketplace. You can often find them super cheap or even free. If they are mis-matched, paint them all the same color for cohesiveness!
