You paint the ceiling first. Then the crown molding. Use blue painters tape. The trim comes next then the walls.
There's no right or wrong answer for this. Here's a link with the pros and cons of painting the molding first:

Hi Susan, it depends on whether you're painting everything or not. If you're painting everything paint your ceiling first and then paint all of your molding and trim and then tape off your molding and trim to then paint your walls. This will save you as much time as possible in prep work.

I would say there's no specific order. Just tape off the trim or tape off the wall/ceiling and you should be good to go.
Pros usually follow a certain order when painting a room. They paint the trim first, then the ceiling, then the walls. That's because it's easier (and faster) to tape off the trim than to tape off the walls. And you certainly don't want to tape them both off!
I agree, paint molding (if it needs paint) then let dry. Then tape off both sides of molding. Then paint ceiling and walls, order doesn't matter much.
I found this where they paint the crown molding first: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNC8BqwlLZ4
Ceiling, walls, trim (crown and base) is the order I paint.
Obviously it doesn't matter. It seems everyone has their own thing going on. No matter which you choose to do first or last is up to you.
Hi Susan. Start at the top and work your way down. First is the ceiling. Then the trim, including your crown molding. Allow the crown and trim time to dry and then tape it off. And last comes the walls. Good luck Susan. Happy Holidays.

I would paint walls first, then mask off the wall area to paint the crown. Im just saying that because it may be easier to mask the wall then the crown.
tape off the trim and do it last.
I paint the crown first, tape off below it before you paint. Then I re-tape the bottom of the crown when its dry to paint the wall. Just did this for a client last week.
I paint the room then the moldings.
I paint ceilings, walls and finish with moulding.
Hi Susan, I always paint the walls first and then the trim. The trim is usually the last step.
I do the walls first and then the moulding
I always do trim last b
