The problem likely is not the type of paint, but that they were not prepared well. You need to make sure that ALL of the flaked paint is removed, likely by sanding. Then the dividers need to be primed, and then painted with an exterior paint and you should be good.

  • Use a quality exterior paint and be sure to prep well.

Hello. Proper prep and the correct paint are necessary for a professional job. Any type of mold mildew or debris needs to be removed sometimes sanding prior to repainting. Replace the window caulk as needed.A good quality exterior paint should be used outdoors.

Hi Pat, if you want to see if the paint or stain is oil-based dip a ball of cotton wool into a small amount of denatured alcohol and wipe it onto your window dividers. If the paint comes off it's water-based. The type of paint/stain is important to know before applying a new coat of paint. You can paint oil-based paints over water-based paints, but you can't use water-based paints to paint over oil paint/stain.

You need to use an exterior paint. As time goes by, all paint will flake. The best one I have found is at Ace Hardware, their best store brand. Sorry, but I don't recall the name. We used it on a playhouse 8 years ago. It has faded a bit from it's original bright pink but has outlasted Behr & Valspar that we used on our houses.

Ask for help at the paint counter or hardware store I also like Ace Hardware). Store brand paint is often quality paint at a lower price. Be sure to remove all the loose paint before repainting with an exterior paint. Good luck!

If you are painting the exterior go to Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore and get exterior paint. It is a little more costly at these places but it lasts.

you can always ask the folks that work in paint stores, Home Depot etc as well for best paint for your area and your job

  • I would sand it down or strip off the paint and then make sure you find a good exterior paint that can take the elements.

Go to your paint store and they can point you to the correct paint. Exterior acrylic latex should work just fine
