How I Fixed This Ugly Space Below My Stairs
So I had this HORRIBLE space under my stairs. I don't even know what to call it... the wall under my stairs? Either way, it was a hot mess. Not sure who finished the space but it was not done right. We ripped up the old and dirty rugs upstairs to uncover this perfectly good wood steps so its possible some of this was hidden under the carpeting.
Either way, the "spider cave" as it came to be known on account of all the spiders living in that hole, HAD to go. I asked my contractor and he wanted $1,500 to fix. I decided I could do this on my own for free labor.
I started by taking card board and "measuring" the space. Basically I created a template for it.
Then we cut a 2x4 to frame out the space.
Then I traced the cardboard stencil on a piece of drywall and cut it out using a drywall saw. There is probably a tool you can use to make this easier.
Then we screwed the drywall into the wood frame.
I spackled over all the rough edges and sanded using a triangle sander and sanding block.
Then just primed and painted and added some molding!
Ugly corner and spider cave has been neutralized!
