I did this mosaic work almost 10 years ago. We keep it on our screened in porch inc in the winter (it is covered then) I collect china so have lots of bits and pieces of broken china. This piece I wanted to be pinks and greens. Cups will not really work so well as they have a definite curve that is hard to reduce to the flatness needed. Even so this table is a little "bumpy" for a small item like a cup or mug. I probably hot glued the pieces on then covered the entire thing with grout, cleaning it off the pieces themselves. Last summer I took a scrub brush to this piece and hosed it off. Came out fine. BTW this bench is probably around early 1900's. This is a very fun project. I also glued the broken china pieces onto this cabinet we have. I did not bother with grout for this piece. Like any artistic pursuit you just arrange the pieces in a pattern pleasing to yourself. You will need more pieces than you think! Good luck!
