I knew I wanted this to be mostly in the beige color range.
The base would be taken from this "bun basket doily".
Using three of the four corner, I trimmed back the two top layers and used a spray adhesive to secure them in place. This is the base. Before spraying the adhesive, I covered everything with plastic. No problem lifting it off the plastic.
The second layer includes lace that has been gathered to form ruffles. Again this layer is secured with spray adhesive.
The final layer is a complete doily again secured with spray adhesive. From this point on, I will be using a hot glue gun to mount the bling.
When I began this project, I worked everything to the to layers without adhering anything and took this picture once I was generally satisfied as to what goes where. I took this picture to help me get there. I forgot to take a picture layer where I added the "wedding dress" applique, but you can see it there. I mentioned these wedding appliques in another project "Altered Bottle Art". Link is below.
With the excess doilies cut and glued to the back, it was getting a bit messy looking back there, so I took the fourth corner from the bun doily to give it a more finished look.
This is the actual finished look. Things got moved around a bit and things got added. I chose to add a little more of the wedding applique on the right and found this cute little crocheted rose. I also added jump chains to either side and a chain to the back. It might still be a work-in-progress, but for now at least, I'm done here.
Maybe it's a bit much for Mary to wear, but I think I'll walk by a few more times before I make a final decision. What do you think?
