When we moved into our house, there was this weird, raised "closet" the previous owners just put a curtain over it and stored a few things behind the curtain. I thought the curtain looked so weird because it wasn't a real closet and it was raised up a little over a foot.

Here is the listing photo with the curtains.

I removed the curtains and rod and this is what the nook looked like. A fresh start!

I started by nailing in beadboard to give the walls more interest using a brad nail gun.

Next, I added some small trim boards with the nail gun as well.

Then I caulked the gaps for a clean look.

Then I painted nook the same color as the room to make it look more cohesive.

Then I cut boards down to size and installed them on the studs using brackets. I stained them as well! I was hunting for a piece of furniture that would fit the front with drawers an I found the perfect one!!

Here it is all painted with one shelf up!

Here it is with the drawers in!

I wanted to give the drawers a slightly elevated look, so I added some shaker trim and new handles.

I painted them to match the walls as well. Now time to finish building the nook structure!

I cut down some wood for supports on the sides and in the middle next to the existing bench.

I installed them on the studs for stability.

Then, I added some top boards out of scrap wood that were level with the existing bench!

I wanted to add a cushion, so I bought some foam from Michaels and cut it down to the size of the nook using a bread knife!

I put a fitted twin bed sheet over it and it actually fit really well and will act as a protective layer. Bonus points: the dogs are comfy!

Lastly, I added some throw pillows and cozy blankets! Then I filled the shelves with books and took a nap in it!
