Handmade Grain Sack Ornaments

Handmade Christmas. It conjures images of trees laden with popcorn and cranberry strings, paper snowflakes, simple crafts made by little hands. It makes you long for the simplicity of days gone by. It speaks of long, relaxed evenings with family by the fireside, hot cider for sipping and the enjoyment of family and friends. Create your own Handmade Christmas - start with some simple handmade ornaments!
I made these handmade Christmas ornaments from vintage European grain sacks. You can find them by searching ebay or in local antique shops.
The hanger for the ornament was formed with a bit of baker's twine. To make the ornament a bit puffy and more textured, a bit of batting was tucked between the two layers before sewing them together.

For the possibly hard-to-find fabric, I would imagine you could also use white burlap yardage. It should be easy enough to stencil tin he red stripes, texture and all! A very pretty project!
