Bedside Tables / Night Stands

Having recently completed building our new bed, it was time to build the bedside tables to match. before it is time to consider another bed!!
These units are made from 1"x 8" timber and 2"x 2", the latter I was able to cut from larger timbers left over from the bed project. All the panels and tops are glued and pocket holed, to ensure they stay in one piece,
I used pocket holes where-ever possible, they are not the strongest of joints, but nothing in this build is going to take any stress, so they are ideal. I not only pocket holed the panels, but the panels to the frame, and the frame to the top.
Once I had put the drawers together, I made the decision to use wooden runners, and not buy metal ones, mainly because I have a stack of scrap mahogany from other projects, they used these in the olden days, why not now?
The satisfying thing is that they work, they might not be as smooth as sooper dooper soft glides, but they function, and I have put a moveable stop in the back of each drawer, so they will not pull completely out, unless I move it.
Then it was time for yet more sanding and varnishing. The drawer fronts I cut and fitted today, they were about the last thing to be completed.
I will give them a couple of days in the workshop, just to ensure there are no residual fumes from the varnish, and then they will go into use.
