Don't Throw Out Those Tea Cans

Every December I clean out the kitchen cabinets, making room for baking items I don't normally keep by throwing out any stale dated items.
I came across these cans in the back of the cupboard. Let's just say that I missed throwing them out LAST December. They sat there for a few days until inspiration hit.
And then when I was out walking the dog, I came across a good sized piece of birch bark. Took it home and let it dry out. Let cut it into strips and using craft glue, I adhered them to the cans. Adding some elastic bands during the drying process helped secure the bark.
Let it dry overnight and then trim the top and bottom.
I love the rustic look - especially during the holidays - birch bark just seems to light up an arrangement.
I tucked them into a vintage tool caddy along with some greens. Be sure to use battery operated tea lights as the cans are made from paper (even though they are lined with aluminum paper).

DORLIS on Dec 12, 2015Only problem is there are no birch trees around me unless I raid some growing in someone's yard.

Chargemouse on Dec 26, 2016I'm not 100% sure, but I think you can find bark in craft stores like Michaels, or maybe Hobby Lobby. Look in the "Rustic" section
