Side Table Made With Paint Buckets
I have an addiction for recycling old paint buckets! This time I made side tables ... In the past I also made some cool shelves and a practical stool!
Cut the bottom of two plastic bucket, one at 3 in. and a second at 1 1/2 in. Cut both bucket bottom with a saw (yep, it works). Try to cut as straight as possible. Once it's done, sand the edges.
To screw the feet, you need to drill holes on the sides. You must calculate to have the same distance from one to another (bucket's circumference divided by 3). In the largest, the 3in. one, you have to make 6 holes (two for each foot).
To make the table legs you will need three dowels (1 1/4 in. radius) of 25 in. long. You must screw the dowels with the buckets pieces. The largest on the top, with the dowels inside the bucket. Then +/- 14in. below the smallest piece.
Time to make the tray. I cut a circle in a triplex panel. I used a jigsaw. If you don't have one, I guess you can make your panel cut at your hardware store.
It just remains to fix the tray with the legs. Place the tray upside down on the floor and put feet on it (upside down too). Measure to center the legs on the panel and trace. Screw the base and the tray together.
And done! You can paint o vanish the plywood top the way your like. You will find more pictures and details on my blog

I love this idea. You could also use a 2x2 furring strip for the legs and they are less than $2each for an 8 foot strip. Great idea especially for the college dorm or small apartment.
Good job. And being in real estate for 35 years, I have seen more than a few folks use empty paint buckets for step ladders, so they are more sturdy than you think. This idea would also work using theabout 5 bottoms and the full eight foot furring strips attached the outside of the bottoms about 12 inches apart to make a "pantry" in a small kitchen. So many possibilities...Thanks for the idea.
