Valentine Wreath From Thrift Store Sweaters

This weekend I set a new record for wreath crafting with my new Valentine Wreath. No lie… I managed to put this together and have it hung on the door faster than my husband could go get a burger and come back home. He would have assumed I had pulled it out of a bag in the closet or something if I hadn’t just taken a pair of scissors to a sweater as he was walking out the door. Most men might ask what the heck is going on if they saw their wife cutting up a sweater, but he doesn’t even ask anymore.
Now let’s give credit where credit is due. I got my inspiration for my Valentine wreath from a recent DIY post on Stone Gable Blog. Yvonne made a wonderful gray tone winter wreath using sweaters for decorating after Christmas this year, and I knew this one was for me. Her tutorials are THE BEST! You can see her Warm Winter Sweater Wreath DIY at http://stonegableblog.com
The straw wreath form, burlap ribbon with lace, and the puffy heart decor, I picked up at Hobby Lobby. Gotta love those holiday discounts and app coupons.
I love the mix of rustic burlap and romantic lace on this wired ribbon.
I followed Yvonne's tutorial to a T and it was super easy. I didn't have any yarn handy because I couldn't knit to save my life, so I used some red striped baker's twine to wrap around my sweater pieces and tie all the colors together.
What do you think? I think it's the perfect mix of simplicity and softness with a nod to vintage Valentines. My daughter, being the Valentine birthday girl that she is, thought this was for her, and being the good mom that I am, I told her "of course it is!" and asked if we could hang her Valentine wreath on the front door (wink.)
