DIY Upcycled & Rustic Bedhead Bench

This beautiful and exquisitely unique project was submitted to Pastels & Macarons by Stephanie Thatcher
Stephanie wanted to keep a very special and sentimental bed her grandmother left to her. She wanted to do something with it and use it daily but sh replaced her grandmothers bed with a newer and larger bed.
Her boyfriend helped her create the project. This is how they made it
Old wooden bed
2 x 4's
Electric screw driver
Chalk Paint
Furniture Stain
Dry Cloth
1. Sand back to remove shine.
2. Cut head board and foot board. Footboard will need to be cut in half to create the sides of the bench. Use length of the cut up food board to measure out how much length you will need to leave on the bed before you cut the headboard including part of the actual bed (to help make the seat).
3. Drill the screws in at an angle to hold the footboard (arms) and headboard (back) together. Stephanie used caulking along the line of screws to cover them, then sanded the caulking down at an angle to get rid of the excess and make it have a more finished look.
4. Use the 2 x 4's to make support beams for the seat- full and very detailed explanation on my blog. Use the 2 x 4's also to create palettes for the eat.
5. Paint with Valsper chalk paint process or any other band of chalk paint.
6. Stain wood to give it a rustic look and sand in the spots you feel would naturally wear over time.
Don't you just LOVE it!!!!

I would love to do this with an old Iron bed. Could an Iron footboard be cut?
