There is nothing better than adding fresh home grown basil to your Caprese salad, especially when you picked it on your front porch! With a piece of barn wood saved from my late grandpa's old barn, I used large hose clamps and mason jars to create a hanging herb garden Use nails to tack the clamps to the wood and a large eye bolt on top of the board for hanging. Enjoy picking your favorite herbs and take pride in a great looking addition to your house. See the full article and how-to video on my blog.

Thegreenworkbench on Jul 28, 2013Great question. Since there is no drainage, you have to be very careful on how much you water, only using enough to feed the plants and allow the rest to evaporate. It can be tricky at first, but I've had very good luck and very robust plants. The silverware of course is optional. You can't really see it in the picture, but they are actually engraved with the name of the herb growing in the jar. I'll do a post on them soon. Thanks for your comment!
