Zinnias and are coming on strong at Dandelion House this week. I've had the best luck sowing seed directly in my raised beds. This year's patch is a mix of Grandmas Heriloom Zinnias, Cactus Zinnias, Cut and Come again, and Candy Stripe. The neighborhood bees were filling up their pollen sacks during my photo shoot. They didn't seem to mind my buzzing around the flower beds while they had lunch.
Here are today's FRESH PICKS!

Jeanette S on Aug 09, 2013We always had Zinnias when I was a kid and I ADORE THEM! Cut one to put in a vase, the stem divides and 2 more grow! The more you cut them, the more you get. However, I have tried Zinnias a couple of times and they do not seem to want to grow well. Is it because I don't start them inside first? I get a few straggling plants but nothing worth the effort! Is there a particular brand to buy? I remember cultivating seeds as a kid to plant the following year, but I don't exactly remember how we did that. Do you leave some flowers to dry on the stem? Or do you take the petals where the seeds are at the end of them and lay them out to dry?
